About Us

Mr. Barclay, former [British] consul at New York...called on me with reference to cotton claimed by English subjects. He seemed amazed when I told him...that in no event would I treat an English subject with more favor than one of our own deluded citizens, and that for my part I was unwilling to fight for cotton for the benefit of Englishmen openly engaged in smuggling arms and instruments of war to kill us; that, on the contrary, it would afford me great satisfaction to conduct my army to Nassau, and wipe out that nest of pirates. "
Major General William T. Sherman to Edwin Stanton, Secretary of War, January 1865
About Us

The UK American Civil War Round Table is one of a large number throughout the world dedicated to the study of all aspects of the civil war. The Members come from all walks of life. Their interests cover all areas from military to political study, from social and economic evolution to transportation and foreign relations.

Round Table Membership is open to anyone with an interest in any aspect of the Civil War. The membership meets on a regular basis to hear talks and to promote interest in the conflict. We seek to help those wishing to expand their knowledge of events sharing information through our meetings, welcoming Round Table members from overseas and lending books from our own library. The Round Table has helped in the preservation of historical sites connected with the Civil War in Britain and the USA. The organisation is apolitical; its only interest in the present is the study and preservation of the past.

The seminars were outstanding. one of the best, if not the best, I have attended. The audience and their participation in the Q & A's were superlative
