President's Report - December 2007
News › President's Report - December 2007
 by John Drewienkiewicz
First of all seasons greetings to you all. The members at the October AGM saw fit to re-elect en bloc the current committee and we look forward to the New Year charged with new challenges. Our main priority is to update the Constitution. We thought at the outset that it was going to be a straight forward task, but your comments have proved to be insightful and encouraging. We need to get it right in order to protect the committee, our members and the assets of the Round Table. Tony Brown has shouldered the compilation of the draft and we hope to have an acceptable draft for you to consider in February (or April at the latest).
The New Year also sees us at a new venue, the Civil Service Club. Directions will be given with the February meeting notice and a link will appear on the website. The reasons for the change are well known to you all, and we believe that it will be for the better. The thought of a nice pre-meeting lunch and drink onsite appeals.
We are still finalising some of the speakers for next year. In February we have Thomas Goss from Belgium and April sees the long awaited talk about John Brawner by Greg Bayne. We are also talking to a couple of American speakers who are likely to appear in the summer/autumn. There are some spaces available for some fresh faces and if you would like to give a talk then please discuss it with me as soon as you can.
Congratulations are due to John Bennet who has recently had "London Confederates" published. I know that a few members have already bought it and have told me how good it is. I have dropped some heavy Christmas present hints...
Your membership renewals are due on January 1st and we are pleased to say that the price has been capped at the 2007 rate - £25. Please pay promptly to Derek Young. Members are also urged to support our library service that is managed by Len Ellison.(Click here for details of the books we hold).
Finally thanks to all of the Committee for their effort this year, particularly for standing in for me when I have been engrossed in travels to foreign climes on business. ‹ Back to News
